Metropolis of Boston Youth Dance Group

Vanessa Mitsialis, M.D.

Vanessa Mitsialis graduated from Newton North High School in 2005 and is currently studying molecular and cellular biology at Harvard College. In addition to serving as the secretary of the Harvard Hellenic Society, she is in charge of an incipient Greek dance program for students and affiliates of Harvard College that will begin during the fall of 2006. Her affiliation with the Metropolis Youth Dance Group began at age 9, when she began Greek dance lessons under the instruction of Niki Sokolove in Brookline, Massachusetts. At age 14, Vanessa was admitted to the advanced group of MYDG, and has been performing with this dance group ever since. In 2006, Vanessa was made an instructor of MYDG under group director John Pappas, and, beginning in the fall of 2006, she will be instructing all levels of the Greek dance program at the St. Athanasius the Great Church in Arlington, MA.

Dance Experience

  • 2006 – present: serves as an instructor of MYDG advanced group and sole instructor of the dance levels in Arlington, MA.
  • March 2006: performed “hassaposerviko” dance at Harvard’s Cultural Rhythms show of international performing arts.
  • Summer 2006: performed at the Dora Stratou dance theater in Athens, for the first meeting of ANAPALH, a yearly symposium of Greek dance groups from the Hellenic diaspora Performed at TA ERMOPOULIA, a performing arts festival in Syros, Greece, along with the Lykeion Ton Ellinidon of Syros.
  • 2001 – present: is a member of the advanced MYDG dance group, which represents MYDG in all performance venues.
  • 1996 – 2001: received Greek dance instruction from Niki Sokolove in the dance levels of MYDG.

Additional Performing Arts Experience

  • 1997-2005: took weekly piano lessons and performed at yearly workshops.
